MY ALASKA NOVEL
Hello.  Welcome to my website.  I'm Rosemary, aka Rosemary I. Patterson, Ph.D.  I'm a former School Psychologist who while travelling became fascinated with an area of Psychology called Identity Achievement (Who am I and what do I want to do with my life).  While attending a conference in Alaska I realized that Native Alaskans would have to decide whether they were going to identify with their Eskimo or Dene culture, mainstream American culture or some combination of both.  The result of this musing was my novel ALASKA NOW.  Alaska Now is both a love and Romance novel between two people with different world views and a  Literary History telling much of the history concerning Alaska natives since western contact
The picture on the cover of ALASKA NOW was taken as I cruised through Glacier Bay.  After reviewing the literature on Alaska it was apparent to me that a great battle was being fought between the proponents of the oil industry and the Native Alaskan people who want to keep the Alaska Native Wildlife Refuge from being despoiled by oil drilling and its accompanying roads, processing plants and disturbance.  I also realized that most people outside of Alaska do not realise that a land settlement was given to Native Alaskans in the 1980's in order to obtain the rights to the Prudoe Bay oil fields.  The result of this musing is my Adventure novel ALASKA NOW which brings the reader up to date on happenings and controversies in Alaska since the publication of James Michener's novel ALASKA.

WRITER'S DIGEST REVIEW OF ALASKA NOW:

17TH. Annual Writer's Digest Self-Published Book Awards Commentary Sheet, March, 2010.

What did you like best about this book?

As soon as I picked up ALASKA NOW, my eyes were immediately drawn to the gorgeous cover photo.  The cover graphics and color choices were excellent and were set for optimal marketability.  Part adventure, intrigue and romance, this is a story that will resonate with readers.  Patterson's intensive research is apparent, and readers will enjoy learning more about Native Alaskans and the risks of oil development in the rural areas.  Patterson's strength is in her dialogue.  The conversations are natural and move the story forward in ways that narrative cannot.  The story contains just enough suspense to keep the reader glued to the page.....OVERALL, READERS WILL BE AS CAPTIVATED BY THE INTRIGUING STORY AS THEY ARE WITH ALASKA ITSELF."
